Studying workplace ethical dilemmas in Business Ethics has been thrilling! This online class, like others at NECB, is a varied format of reading assignments, audio and video lectures, assignments and lively discussion boards. My personal favorite part of this course is the lively interactive group discussions, where I am not only learning from our professor but also from my classmates, as we have been studying and discussing causes of unethical leadership in the workplace along with strategies to avoid unethical behavior. Honestly one of my favorite classes so far!
In Accounting I, I am learning the basics of accounting concepts, how to use financial data in managing and analyzing business operations. Ethics is also integrated in this course. While I am finding the Accounting to be more of a challenge I enjoy this challenge. I am eager to learn more and know the skills I am developing will be put to good use after I complete my degree and start another small business.
Although I enjoyed Spring break I am happy to be springing forward with my education. It feels great to be back in classes and making progress towards my degree at NECB! I am currently enrolled in Accounting I and Business Ethics. In Accounting I am beginning to develop a basic understanding of basic accounting concepts and practices. Business Ethics is helping me develop critical thinking and analysis of moral issues in business. I look forward to sharing my experience here as I complete these courses.
It feels great to complete finals and research papers. I learned so much these past 8 weeks and have taken away valuable skills from both courses that I am already making use of. Principles of Management taught me the difference between managers and leaders and the importance of both in the business world. We studied how managers get things done by planning, leading, organizing and controlling. I really enjoyed the personal assessments that have helped me to be a better leader now and will benefit me in my future career after graduation. I was really nervous at the start of Business Math because it had been so many years since I took a math class and had forgotten most of what I had been taught in the past. Those fears quickly went away as we covered basic math and moved on to business math problems. I truly benefited from ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) a Web-based learning system available 24 hours a day. It was like having a personal tutor. I was able to work through this course using ALEKS at my own pace. We covered topics such as insurance, taxes, and balance sheets which is helpful to anyone purchasing a home or business and helpful to the business professional looking at a company’s assets, liabilities and shareholders’ equity, etc. Another term that flew by! I look forward to this short Spring break and can’t wait to resume my classes at NECB!
It had been over 20 years since I have taken Math classes and I wasn’t feeling confident about my Math skills, then I enrolled in MAT103 – Business Math at NECB. This course has given me so much more confidence. I have been able to regain skills that were long forgotten and achieve new math skills. Not only am I learning new Math skills but also about the cost of home ownership, mortgages, amortization, insurance, and much more! This new knowledge is vital to my personal finances and I’m seeing immediate benefits from this class as I prepare to sell my home and shop for a new mortgage and insurance. In this course we use ALEKS - Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system that has made Math easy for me to learn. I am mastering Math skills that were once intimidating and I am really enjoying it!
I am now half way into my second semester with courses at NECB. I can honestly say that I am even more excited than when I started. NECB continues to exceed my expectations! I was eager to return from the holiday break and get back into classes. Over the holiday break I had the opportunity to talk about my education with several friends and family members. I answered many questions about the convenient online delivery of courses, the time commitment, costs and quality of education. A few are considering returning to college and they were very impressed with the flexibility, affordability and quality of the education at NECB. I am thrilled to share that so far one of my friends has applied to NECB and expect a few more soon!
Happy Holidays!
Holidays are always a busier and more stressful time of year for me. Our family has traditions such as building a gingerbread house, baking sugar cookies and making hand-made ornaments in addition to the usual shopping for gifts, wrapping, mailing holiday greeting cards, etc. I was a little worried about keeping up with classes and school work through this busy and stressful time of year. I am happy to report that I am on track even through recent snowstorms and power outages. If you are waiting for a perfect time to start school there probably never will be the perfect time. NECB classes offer complete flexibility to work around the busiest schedules and most hectic times of the year. I am currently enrolled in Business Math and Principles of Management and enjoying both classes as much as my first two courses. Math is not strength for me and I am happy to say that as I am settling into this class it is getting easier and enjoyable. It amazes me that we are already into the third week of classes. I must go finish wrapping gifts and will be checking in again soon to share my progress.
Happy Holidays!

I am enjoying my second term as much as my first term at NECB. Many of my classmates have expressed how nervous they are to begin an online class and I heard this the first week last term as well. I remember feeling exactly the same way and also remember how quickly that feeling went away. My classes are comprised of students who are at all different life and career stages. We have recent high school graduates and people like myself who have been out of school for 20-30 years and for others it has been longer. It truly never is too late to return to college. My advice to new students is to always use time management and you’ll be fine! Online courses offer portability and flexibility. If you stay disciplined and focused you will succeed at NECB.
First Day of Classes

It’s been an enjoyable first day back in classes following a wonderful holiday break. On this Cyber Monday I had time to do some holiday shopping online and begin my online classes. This is my second term at NECB and I am enrolled in Business Math (MAT103) along with Principles of Management (MGM201). An exciting day reviewing the syllabuses and getting an overview of everything we will cover in the next eight weeks. My favorite part of the day was posting and reading class introductions. With great enthusiasm I look forward to my courses with anticipation of NECB continuing to surpass my expectations. Cyber Monday has new meaning to me, without leaving my home I successfully attended classes and completed my holiday shopping. Happy Cyber Monday!
First 2 Classes Completed!
I completed my first 2 classes at NECB last Thursday! I am enjoying the week off between terms but also anxious to get started in my next 2 classes. It is the season to give thanks and I am thankful for family, friends, my health and completing my education at NECB. I am feeling very blessed on this holiday.
Happy Thanksgiving!
This term has literally flown by! Have I mentioned before how much I love 8 week terms? This is the 7th week of my first 2 classes at NECB and with much excitement I look forward to my next two courses, Business Math and Principles of Management. Registering for classes is a breeze! Took me only a few minutes to register online and the few questions I had were answered promptly. I am so happy with my education at NECB that I find myself talking about it often with friends, family and people I meet on a daily business. I hope to see some of you in classes with me soon!
